Intaglio engraving workshop

PUNTA SECA

The DRY POINT is a so-called direct engraving process. To perform this technique we do not need any chemical process or varnish, just a punch and a metal or plastic plate.

Drypoint engraving is a technique similar to burin engraving. In this process, the student draws a design on the metal using a punch. The plate is engraved creating lines and grooves in the matrix. Some of the engraved material rises up on its sides, the so-called burrs. Once the plate is engraved, the process is the same as intaglio engraving: inking the plate, cleaning and stamping on engraving paper.
